UMUWA

Umuwa is the regional administrative centre for the Anangu Pitjantjatjara Lands. Umuwa is located approximately 250km North East from Marla and 460km South West from Alice Springs. It is situated mid-way between Ernabella and Fregon communities.

Umuwa has a population of approximately 50 people. Umuwa is serviced by a mail plane twice weekly and truck transport from Adelaide and Alice Springs weekly. Umuwa has no store. Offices for Anangu Pitjantjatjara (AP), AP Land Management, AP Services, Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara Media and Nganampa Health Council are located at Umuwa.

Umuwa has a variety accommodation types including houses, duplex units and shared accommodation. Accommodation is available according to need, suitability and availability. Accommodation is provided to employees at a subsidised rental. Water, power and bottled gas are included in rent. All accommodation is cabled for internet capable telephone connection. Individuals are responsible for telephone connection and usage charges.

Nganampa Health Council has clinics in Ernabella and Fregon that can provide emergency medical treatment to employees. Non-urgent conditions and management of long term medical conditions must be referred to services in Alice Springs.

There are community schools in Fregon and Ernabella and several families use correspondence schooling.

AP LANDS

The Anangu Pitjantjatjara Lands (AP Lands) are located in the far North West corner of South Australia covering an area of some 103,000 square kilometres (see map below)
